The year is 2010, only months after the formation of the ISGC. When a team sent to Egypt finds a piece of Ancient technology in a lost Goa'uld chamber, it is discovered that not all of the Ancients who came back to earth nearly 10,000 years ago ascended, as previously thought. In fact, a small group of them left earth only a short while after returning from Atlantis, and headed for the distant Orion galaxy.

With this information, a crew is assembled for a vessel being built, the XC-314 Destiny, which was meant for long range, long term exploration, commanded by General Peter Barrows. We jump three years into the future, to 2013, and construction on the Destiny has been completed. With a special ceremony, the Destiny and its crew of more than 500 launch for the edge of the galaxy, and embark on their long journey to the Orion Galaxy.

Nine weeks and 20 million light years later, the Destiny arrives in Orion, with an extremely strained hyperdrive, only to recieve a distress call from a ship, which is under attack, claiming to be from the world of Talloran. General Barrows decides to help the vessel and its crew, and wards off the attackers. They soon meet the crew of the vessel and its commander, Commander Tenyris Nalar.

He explains that the enemy that attacked them was the Malecathi, a race which has inhabited nearly every section of the galaxy, and attack humans at every turn. It is only as we learn this, that the Destiny comes under attack from a large group of Malecathi fighters from out of nowhere. Now, with the Destiny unable to jump to hyperspace, the enemy fighters engage the ship, leaving her defenseless.

On the newly established Orion-1's first official mission through the Stargate, the team is forced to scrap the real mission in an effort to retrieve a downed UAV. However, the inhabitants of the village misconstrue this accident as an attack from an old enemy, and use a strange power on the team, a power that has supposedly protected the people of the village for generations.

Soon, the team members start to grow strange in their behavior, and suddenly, attack each other! Tenyris, seemingly unaffected, returns to the ship in an effort to seek help, and a rescue mission is soon put together to go after the Orion-1 team. However, in Tenyris' absence, the rest of the team members continue to hunt each other, as if possesed. Soon, the rescue team arrives, and the search begins for a way to return Orion-1 to normal, before they can do more than just attack each other...

As a fighter patrol returns to the Destiny under heavy fire, the ship is forced to retreat into a nearby asteroid field when she is discovered by a mammoth Malecathi vessel, the size of which we have never before seen on a ship. Forced to hide in the asteroid field, the Destiny, dwarfed by this mammoth vessel bearing down on her is unable to jump to hyperspace and escape and begins to play a game of cat and mouse with the ship, which takes a turn for the worse when Lieutenant Hasegawa and Colonel Hemmingway become stranded on an asteroid, strikingly close to the enemy ship. It is up to Jonas and Tenyris to rescue them, and ensure that the mammoth vessel is unable to pursue the Destiny any longer, before the Onslaught Cruiser, as it is christened by Tenyris, can get any closer to the Destiny.

During a routine exploration mission through the Stargate, Orion-1 visits a planet that was believed by Tenyris to once have been home to the Ancients. Upon arriving the team find themselves in an abandoned and destroyed city, similar to Atlantis. Everything seems perfect, apart from damage apparently done from the bad weather, the city is their's for the taking. This includes a small amount of Puddle Jumpers, Drones and the address to every Stargate address in the Orion galaxy. However, as the team ventures deeper into the city, they start to unravel a disturbing and dangerous secret of the Ancients.

As Lieutenant Hasegawa and Jonas Quinn explore a strange military bunker, the Lieutenant is suddenly 'attacked' by a strange device, rendering him unconscious. Soon, he begins to have strange visions, visions that seem to be taking place on the world they are exploring, only in the past. Takeshi is taken back to the Destiny, with the device still attached to him, where, through these visions, he begins to uncover the truth behind just how the Malecathi work.

As they encounter each other, to them for the first time, they must learn to work together, and with an unexpected source of guidance and information. It is up to them, and most especially Tenyris, who senses that not all is right, to discover the truth and somehow escape this lie.

Meanwhile, on the Destiny, the search for the long-missing Orion-1 goes nowhere, until General Barrows is forced to take the ship to the last known location of Orion-1, after a Stargate dialing sequence goes awry. Will they be able to find Orion-1 before it's too late, or will the team be forced to fend for themselves?

Looking over the Talloran Medical Database, alongside Doctor Arenus Kemmoran - one of Tenyris' crew, Doctor Lancaster comes across plans for a weapon: a virus designed to be able to attack any type of DNA. Upon learning that this project was initated for use against Thrull warriors, Lancaster and Kemmoran propose to General Barrows that they begin research on this bioweapon onboard the Destiny.

The weapon is soon tested, and quite successfully. But suddenly, crewmembers begin falling ill, and within hours, an epidemic is at hand. With the ship now split between quarantine sections, and the need to establish an offworld medical base to deal with the rising number of victims, one of our own becomes affected with the virus; a virus, ironically, only meant to attack Thrull Warriors.

Soon, though, Doctor Lancaster discovers why this virus is attacking humans - for a reason that makes our enemy much more powerful, as well as mysterious, than we had thought before.

Having been in the Orion galaxy for several months, and experienced great hardships and losses, the crew of the Destiny suddenly happens upon a world said to be a "paradise planet" of sorts, where there are magnificent natural wonders, little popuulation and no advanced technology, save for a communications tower supposedly placed on this world in order to bring "weary travelers" to this paradise.

After negotiations between Barrows and the leader of the few people on the paradise world, Gallen, crew from the Destiny begin to travel to the planet to take some much needed R&R. But not all is as it seems when Tenyris, suspicious of this world from the start, is suddennly attacked before he can uncover what this world's true purpose is!

As the crew empties from the Destiny, leaving less than a hundred onboard, a group of unknown soldiers somehow beams onboard the Destiny, and after taking key positions on the ship, do the unthinkable... and jump to hyperspace.
