1.07 "I Think, Therefore..."

The episode starts off on a tried-and-true, old-timey sci-fi premise - team's memories are gone, they're thinking new things, don't know what's real. I was afraid that it would be too much like SG-1's "Beneath the Surface," but my fears were groundless. We got to see an interesting new creepy-style race, and it introduced a somewhat newish enemy that I hope we see later on. In short: we've got all the recycled essences of Sci-fi, and they're a good place to start for a series with character development in mind.

Barrows is one tough sonuva(word I'm not allowed to say), who's unwilling to go on a rescue mission to save his front-line team unless he thinks they have absolutely no chance to make it out on their own. A little miserly, but I'm sure that'll even out over time.
Hemmingway was sort of shelved in this episode, and it really came down to Tenyris, Takeshi, and Jonas. Unfortunately, they didn't get very much character development, despite being front-and-center - they just sort of were there, dealing with the problem, but were only a small part of the solution.

So, in terms of character development, it wasn't all that great. Interesting tidbits between Alex and Tenyris, but I don't think it was really all that wise to do something like that. Remember, if you create the tension, you have to maintain it, and if you don't, both characters will flop.

Overall though, the writing was very sharp. Only a few minor quips with the lack of question marks, because in the end, no matter how much like a statement it sounds, a question is a question is a question.

Aside from the episode itself, though, it feels a little bit like the ship setting isn't utilized enough. It's too much like a convinient, moving base. Perhaps some more description can be put into describing the star systems around it, to make the series feel more spacey.

I liked this episode. It was nice, and pretty solid.
